Scientific tests carried out in collaboration with international research institutions and the achievement of organic and kosher certifications testify to the high quality of Algea Food products
Algea, the worldwide point of reference for high-quality seaweed based ingredients for over 75 years, will be participating in "Vitafoods Europe” this year, the international exhibition dedicated to professionals in the nutraceutical sector. In Geneva, between May 5 to 7, where over 14000 visitors and 750 exhibitors are expected to arrive, the fair will be an opportunity for Algea, a Valagro Group company, to present its innovations related to the ingredients for the industry of functional foods and dietary supplements, a result of GeaPower®, the advanced research and exclusive technology of the group.
New for this year is the achievement of organic and kosher certifications, demonstrating once again the superior quality of the Algea Food ingredients, phyto-complexes obtained from pure Ascophyllum nodosum, a brown seaweed rich in active ingredients such as polyphenols, mannitol, iodine, minerals and alginates, offering to effectively contribute to the physical well-being.
The prestigious Debio's Ø-label is a recognized symbol for organic products throughout the world. Organic certificates are among the most sought after, thanks to the increasing consumption of organic food: it is enough to think that the organic market has recorded a turnover of 72 billion dollars (about 55 billion euro) in 2013 globally, an increase of 10% compared to 2012 *. The kosher certification, however, has been issued by the US-based OK Kosher Certification, who follows a stringent policy for kosher food products in terms of hygiene, purity and quality.
"Algea has participated in Vitafoods Europe for years and it could not be otherwise: the nutraceutical is - and will always be - a strategic sector of the food & beverage market. We, at Valagro, want to continue to grow internationally in this business, because we consider it a key sector for the Group in medium-long term future - stated Giuseppe Natale, CEO, Valagro Group - In particular, we aim to specialize in the sector where our high quality products can offer higher value, as demonstrated by attainment of organic and kosher certification."
Scientific studies conducted in collaboration with leading universities and research centres have shown the effectiveness of Algea Food solutions, ideal ingredients for functional foods and food supplements due to their active role in weight control and as a valid substitute for salt (Algea Food Phyto), and in providing highly bio-available iodine (Algea Food I-Plus).
This year the quality of Algea will be tested and savoured thanks to the preparations, some of which will be available for tasting: crackers, tea, tofu, pâté and mayonnaise prepared with our ingredients based on Arctic Ascophyllum nodosum which will be served to test the reduction of salt and to demonstrate its potential and incredible versatility.
Algea is the only company in the world located above the Arctic Circle in Norway, which for over 75 years has been producing ingredients made from seaweed, collecting and transforming Ascophyllum nodosum with sustainable and innovative methods. This algae grows in inter-tidal dark areas of cold Northern seas, where the ecosystem is still intact and untouched, and thanks to the extreme weather conditions, its precious active components such as alginates, fucoidans, polyphenols and fluoro-tannins build up in a natural manner during its development. The substances contained in these brown algae are already used as ingredients in the nutraceuticals sector for human nutrition, feeds, animal nutrition, as well as in agriculture as a fertilizer ideal for organic farming.
