Algea, a company of the Valagro Group, will be attending Nuce International, the international fair for the nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, functional foods & drinks and health ingredients industries, taking place in Bologna from 8 to 10 September.
More importantly, on 9 September at 4.00 pm, Donatella Di Tommaso, head of the Group's research laboratory, will be leading a conference entitled "Sport and mineral salts: does iodine have a role to play?” The aim is to illustrate the importance of introducing iodine into the diet of those who practice sport. Indeed, iodine is useful for supporting the performance of athletes and sports enthusiasts who are looking for a natural “energiser”. Indeed, this element is linked to the production of thyroid hormones and therefore to energy metabolism.
On this occasion, Algea will introduce AlgeaFood I-Plus, an ingredient of the AlgeaFood nutraceutical line, recently developed by the company, which constitutes a valuable source of iodine for athletes. And not just for athletes. Indeed, iodine is an essential element for human beings at all stages of their lives. However, in many countries worldwide, iodine deficiency affects a significant part of the world’s population.
As was also confirmed by a study conducted jointly with Sant'Anna University of Pisa, the iodine contained in AlgeaFood I-Plus is bioavailable to the human body, providing it with its daily recommended dose. Furthermore, it is 100% natural and certified as Halal.
The AlgeaFood nutraceutical line is obtained from pure Ascophyllum nodosum which has been directly harvested and processed in Norway, in state-of-the-art and technologically advanced establishments. Thanks to its very high levels of polyphenols, phlorotannins, iodine and alginates, it represents an effective contribution to physical wellbeing. This is the only brown alga of its kind anywhere the world; it grows in the intertidal waters of the cold north sea where Algea, the only company in the world producing marine algae-based ingredients, is located beyond the Arctic Polar Circle. Algea knows Ascophyllum nodosum like nobody else and processes it to obtain products of the very highest quality. Indeed, for over 75 years, the company Algea has been harvesting and transforming this alga which, as a result of the sea's momentum, its prolonged exposure to daylight or darkness and cold temperatures, naturally develops highly valuable active components throughout its growth.
As a result of the high level of scientific research conducted by Algea, its major investments in research and development and its close working partnerships with different universities and research institutes, which collaborate with the Italian group at an international level, Algea is constantly searching for new uses for the extracts and the phytocomplexes in Ascophyllum nodosum. The substances contained in this brown alga have already been used as ingredients in the nutraceutical and human nutrition sectors, as well as those of cosmetics – for the care and beauty of the body, feeds for animal nutrition, and agriculture - as fertilisers suitable for organic farming.
