What is regenerative agriculture?

It’s an agronomic approach that aims to cultivate the land while protecting and improving the health of soil and ecosystems. It preserves biodiversity and safeguards the use of resources, and at the same time makes agriculture more productive and profitable.

In this approach, traditional practices such as minimal or no-tillage, the use of cover crops, or crop rotation meet with innovative solutions and technologies in accordance with the specific needs of crops and land. These are combined in a way that is simultaneously beneficial to humans, the environment, and the entire value chain. In fact, projections show that the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices and solutions over time should result in socio-economic benefits, greenhouse gas savings, as well as increased profits for farmers. It is a win-win approach, whose implementation can make the difference in achieving a sustainable food system.

Regenerative agriculture is an outcome - oriented food production system that nurtures and restores climate, soil health, biodiversity and water while enhancing productivity and farmer profitability

Minimized soil disturbance
Plants in the ground year round
Diversified crops in time and space
Precision application of biologicals and chemical inputs
Integrated livestock when possible

How do biologicals support regenerative agriculture outcomes?

Regenerative agriculture requires rethinking not only the way of cultivating the land, but also the systemic agronomic strategy and the use of external inputs for crop nutrition and protection. This does not mean that external inputs are eliminated, but that are instead managed in the principle of precision application: administered in a targeted way, minimizing waste, and leveraging on the most innovative products and technologies to optimize treatments on the basis of the single crop or area. And this is where biologicals play a role.

As innovative products that valorize the action of molecules and organisms present in nature with the aim of improving crop performance and soil quality, these solutions are designed to ensure crops health and productivity while respecting ecosystems. With a wide portfolio of biologicals covering the most diverse needs, Syngenta Biologicals aims to stand by farmers and provide effective solutions to help them in the transition of a new way of producing food.

Biologicals and regenerative agriculture: download the handbooks!

In order to guide farmers in the choice of the appropriate product for their sustainability targets, Syngenta Biologicals has created a series of handbooks that assess the contribution of our biologicals to the outcomes of regenerative agriculture. Leveraging on the research experience behind each product, which allows us to understand their mechanism of action, and to our field trials results, these handbooks are able to provide a clear picture of the role of biologicals in a regenerative agriculture strategy.
